"What I learned from my Nutritionist Conversation"

Recently, after having my yearly appointment with Dr. Hall I had the opportunity to speak with a staff nutritionist. The Hall Center in Santa Monica, California, is a Wellness Center using both sides of medicine.  Going through Mid-life changes Glycemic (sugar) blood levels can be hard to sustain.  Know that maintaining normal blood sugar levels can prevent disease and assist in optimum health in your 2nd half of life.

So here's what I learned:

  • Glycemic blood levels can rise due to daily consumption of sugar. The Nutritionist said: "Let's adjust some of your sugar intake which will lower your Glycemic level overall".
  • Begin your day with no fruit! (Can you imagine?)  Start your day with sprouted cereals or oatmeal and add unsweetened almond milk to cereal.  The point is: check all labels for sugar content.  For example, using rice, soy or whole milks has approximately 13 grams of sugar.  Make the adjustment to unsweetened almond milk and no fruit.
  • Add some protein to this morning breakfast.  For example, a slice of turkey or chicken or egg whites.  I do not have time for the egg white cooking! It's turkey or tuna fish for me.
  • Add a 7 sprouted grain bread to your daily food plan.  The point is high fiber and less sugar. Again, check the label.  These breads are in your local Whole Foods or other health food markets.  These breads are not that tasty, though you can acquire new taste buds and affirm: this is good for me and will maintain normal Glycemic blood levels.
  • Never eat fruit alone! Add protein.  The nutritionist recommended garbanzo, kidney, black beans, etc. (about ½ cup).  If you eat 4 to 5 small meals a day, this can be one of them. These beans are also high in fiber as well as protein.
  • Drink orange juice during the day with some protein rather than first thing in the morning.  Perhaps cut back to 4 ounces since orange juice is high in sugar (8 oz.=26gms. of sugar).
  • According to this Nutritionist, only 4 ounces of red wine per day is healthy for you. Any more than that is toxic! In other words, it does you harm, rather than being good for you. I have heard from other Nutritionists that 5 ounces per day is fine. Start measuring and decide!
  • The nutritionist also said: "Less estrogen in the body tends to raise sugar levels in Mid-Life. This is another reason to adjust your daily sugar intake. With these few adjustments, Glycemic blood levels should remain in the normal range.

I'm happy to share this information with you and thankful for the adjustments made by the nutritionist in maintaining sugar levels and optimal health through the 2nd Half of Life. I recommend this website www.thehallcenter.com for health articles on Bioidentical Hormones (females and males), detoxification, nutrition, etc. They also have an online community to join for those seeking advice, encouragement, and support (Our Health Circle).

So how are you aligning your life Physically, Mentally Spiritually, Financially and Emotionally in 2008? Questions? Comments? I look forward to answering your emails.

What's New? I'm happy to announce a process that can align your life in all of the above areas! In about 10 days Ezine Subscribers will receive an email with subject: Align your Mid-Life with this new process. Be on the lookout for this opportunity plus a gift certificate from me to you!
