“Three Key Words for a Better Than Before Mid-Life”
Concentration-Relaxation-Imagination
“Part Two – Relaxation”
Before moving on to Relaxation I recommend a quick review on Concentration-Click Here. Now that you have reviewed let’s relax!
There was a time in my life when I never thought about Relaxation and now that I am in the 2nd Half of Life I realize how important it is for me to really slow down and let go. I do not mean I am slowing down my walking pace, rather putting less stress in my life, and letting go of people and environments that do not serve my Highest Good. Yes, I still have my challenges, emergencies, and losses, yet I now have some tools, to move through life with grace, ease, and a sense of Peace of Mind.
So how do you serve your Highest Good? What’s best for you in your 2nd Half of Life? How can you make time for Relaxation? Yes, the Focus or Concentration is on YOU right now! This may even feel a little selfish and if it does you are on the right track!!
According to the Encarta computer dictionary Relaxation can mean quite a few things such as:
Enjoyable activity-a form of activity that provides a change and relief from effort, work, or tension and gives pleasure. This could be a computer game, a nature walk, listening to music, perhaps singing a song, or watching a movie. Make a list and see what is enjoyable for you.
Loosening Process-the process of becoming or making something less form, rigid, or tight. When I hear these words, I think giving myself a break once in a while from being very responsible, highly motivated, and disciplined and affirm a break is a good thing. In other words, lighten up and think of different ways to create more fun in your life. If you are a type A personality, perhaps aiming for a type AB personality is loosening up for you. What one way can you incorporate a loosening process in your Life?
Lessening of Severity-a lessening of the strictness, or severity of regulations, restrictions, or controls. What comes to mind for me is; less hard on myself= more loving to myself and others. I am more loving to myself by acknowledging what I accomplished today, being aware of my daily Attitude - Gratitude, and to know what I have control of and what I do not. I listen and give advice only when asked. How can you lessen regulations, restrictions and controls in your work and personal life?
Reduction of intensity-a lessening or weakening of something that was previously concentrated or intense. An example of this in my life is when my husband and I are trying to solve a computer issue for an hour and cannot put it to rest till it is solved! I’m sure you can relate to computer issues and perhaps husband/partner issues as well. I let go, take a few breaths and know making a mountain out of a molehill can have a great effect on my peace of mind. I then say; Andrea, don’t go there. I then choose an activity that is peaceful for me, such as watering my plants, or stroking my cat.
If you find yourself having an intense, frustrating workday what can you do to let go in your workspace? One of my clients handles her frustrations by going in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet and focuses on expanding her belly on the inhale through the nose, and releasing her belly on the exhale through the mouth a few times. Another client brings her knitting for breaks and lunchtime. What reduces your intensity?
