“Tis’ the Season to Maintain Weight, Fitness and Health”

Yes, for most of us Tis’ the Season begins now.  Yikes!  Whether you love the Holidays or just breeze through them and hope for the best, one of the challenges for Mid-Life Women starting a new Business or established Entrepreneurs is maintaining weight, fitness and health.

A common formula in Mid-Life is gaining 3 pounds year after year.  Just think 10 years equals 30 pounds of weight gain, which in turn can affect your fitness and health. This in turn affects your energy and vitality for your successful Business. We all know less weight equals a healthy heart.

Two key words that come to mind in maintaining Weight, Fitness and Health are intention and strategy. Webster’s definitions of intention are: a settled direction of the mind toward the doing of a certain act or that upon which the mind is set or which it wishes to express or achieve.  Webster defines strategy as: generalship or the art of managing affairs.

So let’s hop to it!  I asked several clients and a coach; how do you
maintain weight, fitness and health during the Holiday Season?
Here’s what they had to say:

“I roll through the Holidays and I am never at the effect of them.  Being a teacher, I receive gifts of homemade cookies. I eat one and then give the rest away.   I also maintain my regular workout program.”

“The Holiday Season is party time!  I choose to bring healthy oredervies to the parties.  This would be shrimp and vegetable fresh spring rolls!  The spring rolls are a healthy, yummy option to the cheese flaky pastries and deep fried ones.”

“I eat a little less and exercise a little more.  I also focus on the true meaning of the Holidays which keeps me in the peace rather than in the hustle- bustle!”
(Coach Andrea)

“No sugar for me! Well, you know I’ve been eliminating sugar from my diet for the past year and it’s been working out pretty well. Every once in a while I have a glass of wine and sometimes a small piece of my delicious lemon cake! Every time I do I feel the effect of the sugar and it just keeps me in a frazzled state, besides putting on a few pounds. So I don’t go there too often anymore. My motto is: less sugar = less weight!”

You can see from the answers to the question above that the words Intention and Strategy go hand in hand.  Thinking in these terms will definitely get the job done that is maintaining weight, fitness and health during the Holiday Season.

Here are 3 intentions and strategies to work with during the Holiday Season as well as the shared ideas from clients and coach above.  Think about your intention and say it out loud before you go to a party, the mall, or a Thanksgiving dinner. Since you are ready to make wise choices for yourself, following through is your strategy.

  • I intend to minimize the number of orderves (2 to 3) I eat at the party and eat ½ of my main course.  I will drink one glass of wine.  In this way, I maintain my weight and walk away with knowing I accomplished my plan of action.

  • I intend to find a parking space far away from my destination (rather than close by) and to keep a brisk pace to get there.  I also intend to keep a brisk walking pace while gift shopping at the malls.  Yes, I know I will be passing people in the mall and I can gracefully do this.  In this way, I am maintaining my fitness level.
  • I intend to consciously be aware of having less salt and less sugar throughout this Holiday Season.  I will not add any salt from that shaker that sits on the table!  I will have two bites of dessert at the table or none!  In this way, I maintain my cholesterol and blood pressure levels and I am in good Health.

So, what will your intention and strategy be for “Tis the Season”?  I look forward to hearing from you and responding to your email.

May I wish all a very “HAPPY THANKSGIVING” and give thanks to all of you who subscribe to my ezine-newsletter.
